Tax Authorities

Lakeway, like all of Texas, has no income tax (corporate or personal). In place of an income tax is a smorgasbord of other taxes used to support the public schools, roads and services. The two most notable are property taxes and sales tax.

  • Property tax rates fluctuate yearly and vary according to residence location. For information on Travis County, contact the Travis County Tax Office, 473-9473.
  • Austin city sales tax is 8.25% (levied as follows: 6.25% State sales tax; 1% Capitol Metro - transportation services and roads; and 1% City).
  • The list of sales-taxable items varies, but Texas, to its credit, does not levy a tax on unprepared food.

Travis County Appraisal District establishes the appraised value for tax purposes on property. Tax jurisdictions within the City and the 2000 fiscal year tax rates are (per $100 net taxable valuation):
City of Lakeway $0.2535
Lake Travis ISD$1.7795
Travis County Emergency Services$ 0.1000
